Katharine Dowson is one of 15 artists invited to participate in an international project
Matters Matters which focuses on social and environmental crisis. The artists will explore strategies for an integrated approach towards combating poverty, restoring dignity to the excluded, and at the same time generating a much needed dialogue about environmental concerns through their practice.
Matters Matters is a touring exhibition which includes discussion forums that will stimulate a discourse to be gathered in a catalogue to support the exhibition.
Dowson has been commissioned to realise this large scale installation, River of Life , using clear glass, a substance made from naturally occurring minerals, which are transformed through human intervention. Dowson will also present an earlier work Micro Macro ,inspired by a photograph by the Hubble telescope of distant galaxies. The object includes lenses positioned to magnify and refract light for the viewer.
